DE | Am 18. Januar ist es endlich wieder soweit: die Berlin Fashion Week beginnt. Das deutsche Mekka der Fashionblogger öffnet wieder seine Türen und lässt Tausende von Modeliebhabern, PR-Profis und Wichtigtuern in sein Herz pilgern. Dann ist das Brandenburger Tor nicht mehr allein eine Attraktion für Touristen. Aber wie bekommt man eigentlich Zutritt zu den Shows? Wie bereite ich mich für die Fashion Week vor? Ich habe euch mal ein paar Tipps aufgeschrieben, die ich durch meine Erfahrung gelernt habe. Wenn noch jemand Tipps für mich hat, gerne einfach in einem Kommentar hinterlassen. Dann weiß es direkt jeder.
EN | On the 18th January it’s finally time for Berlin Fashion Week again. The German Mecca opens its doors and receives thousands of fashion lovers, PR professionals and snobs that went on a pilgrimage to be part of something (un)important. The Brandenburger Tor will no longer be an attraction to tourist only. But how do I actually get access to the Events? How do I prepare my trip properly? I’ve written down a couple of handy tips for you that I found useful or actually would have liked to know the first time. If you have anything to add, please let us know in a comment.
DE | Bucht eure Unterkunft rechtzeitig! Hotels und Zimmer mit zentraler Lage und gutem Preis sind schnell ausgebucht. Versucht daher mindestens einen Monat im Voraus (noch besser 2 oder 3) zu klären, von wann bis wann ihr vor Ort sein werdet und bucht euer Hotel und Flug. Als Blogger könnt ihr auch gerne versuchen eine kostenlose Unterkunft zu bekommen. In dem Fall solltet ihr die Hotels und PR-Agenturen ca. 2 Monate im Voraus kontaktieren. Manchmal habt ihr auch Glück und könnt noch kurzfristig einen Platz ergattern, weil doch noch ein Zimmer frei ist. Generell ist es aber etwas schwieriger Kooperationen während der Fashion Week einzugehen, da Unterkünfte sowieso schnell ausgebucht sind und „Bloggerräume“ daher oft nicht angeboten werden.
EN | Book your accommodation well in advance! You wont’t believe how many people actually travel to fashion weeks, so if you want to get a good rate and a central location, don’t hesitate to make a booking. I’m speaking of at least a month in advance. If you are a blogger, you can even try to get a free accommodation anywhere. In that case, contact hotels/PR agencies about 2 months in advance since lots of hotels don’t do cooperations during such busy weeks like the fashion week. They will be fully booked and rather make money instead of giving free accommodation during that period of time.
DE | Und jetzt das große Rätsel um die Events. Oftmals findet man Einladungen von ganz alleine in seinem Briefkasten oder Email-Posteingang. Wenn die PR-Agenturen euch aber nicht auf dem Schirm haben, dann schreibt sie einfach an. Schickt euer tolles Media-Kit (How to make a blogger media kit), schreibt, dass ihr ebenfalls vor Ort sein werdet, und fragt, ob auch ein Platz für euch frei ist. Welche Shows es gibt, findet ihr ganz einfach auf einem Schauenplan via Google. Vogue und Fashion Week Berlin teilen diese Infos immer. Dann müsst ihr nur noch herausfinden, wer für die PR des Designers zuständig ist und schon wisst ihr, wen ihr kontaktieren müsst. Für tolle Side-Events müsst ihr einfach mit PR-Agenturen generell in Kontakt sein, um davon zu erfahren. Hierfür gibt es meistens keinen Plan. Außerdem könnt ihr euch mit euren Blogger-Freunden austauschen. Hier gilt aber eher Geben-und-Nehmen und nicht nur Nehmen.
EN | And now the thing with the events. You often find invitations in your mailbox or email inbox by itself but if the PR agency have no clue about your existence, you’ll have to take the initiative and get in touch with them. Email your great media kit (How to make a blogger media kit), inform them about your trip to Berlin and ask whether they’ve got an invitation for you to their event as well. Which shows are going to take place, you can find on a schedule via Google. Vogue and Berlin Fashion Week usually share a schedule online. Afterwards you do some research on the PR agencies that are responsible for the PR of the designers and contact them. For the fun side events that are great for networking, you usually need to be in touch with the agencies in order to find out about them. Besides, you can always ask other bloggers for tips. They have maybe heard about events that you didn’t know about and the other way around. This is give-and-take and not only take, btw.
DE | Zu euren Outfits kann ich euch nicht viel mit auf dem Weg geben, da jeder seinen eigenen Stil präsentieren muss. Aber so viel kann ich sagen: Nimmt lieber ein bisschen mehr mit, falls das Wetter doch kälter oder wärmer wird als erwartet. Ich habe letztes Mal so gefroren, weil ich es viel wärmer erwartet hatte. Vielleicht werdet ihr aber auch spontan zu einer Party oder Pool-Party eingeladen und braucht plötzlich ein Party-Outfit oder Bikini. Achja und auch ganz wichtig: nimmt nicht nur hohe Schuhe mit, wenn ihr nicht sowieso den ganzen Tag schon auf High Heels läuft. Ein Tag auf der Fashion Week besteht oft aus ganz viel Laufen und Stehen …
EN | I can’t give you lots of tips for your outfits but this one I know: take some spare items in case the weather turns out different than expected or you ruin something or spontaneaously get invited to another event that needs a party outfit or a bathing suit or whatsoever. And don’t take the highest high heels, if you are not super used to it. The days are long and include lots of walking and standing …
DE | Zum Schluss habe ich noch zwei selbstverstehende Tipps, die ich euch mit auf dem Weg geben möchte:
• Nimmt genügend Visitenkarten mit, die ihr jederzeit in eurer Tasche verstauen könnt! Ihr werdet viele Kontakte knüpfen.
• Lasst etwas Platz in eurem Koffer! Es gibt überall Goodies, die ihr irgendwie noch in eurem Koffer reinquetschen müsst.
EN | At the end I’ve got two more tips for you:
• Bring your business cards that you carry in your purse all the time. You are going to meet lots of new faces.
• Leave some space in your suitcase, you’ll need it. There are lots of goodies waiting for you at events that you want to take home.
